In our 'The Empire Invades Earth' Star Wars RPG campaign, several of the players wanted body armor to protect their characters. These are the guidelines we used for body armor available in the United States. The format is:
Protection vs. energy / bullets / other weapons / cost ($) / weight (kg)
Energy weapons include blasters, lasers, forcepikes, lightsabers, and concussion grenades or warheads. Bullets include any fast projectiles fired from firearms or gauss guns. Other weapons are fragmentation grenades or warheads, vibroblades, knives, sticks, stones, or bare hands.
| Body Armor | vs. Energy | vs. Bullets | vs. Other | Cost ($) | Weight (kg) | | Hardcorps IV w/ Helmet | +1 | +1D | +1D+1 | 1,800 | 15.5 | | Hardcorps IV | +1 | +1D | +1D | 1,500 | 14 | | The best body armor available on Earth - very rare. | | Landwarrior w/ Helmet | +1 | +2 | +1D | NA | 5 | | Landwarrior | +1 | +2 | +2 | NA | 3.5 | | Only US Special Forces could reasonably have this body armor. | | Spectra Shield w/ Helmet | +1 | +2 | +1D | 1,200 | 5 | | Spectra Shield | +1 | +2 | +2 | 900 | 3.5 | | The favorite of well funded personal security specialists and mercenaries. | | Flak Jacket w/ Helmet | +1 | +1 | +1D | 650 | 5.5 | | Flak Jacket | +1 | +1 | +2 | 350 | 4 | | Standard US Army issue; available at better surplus stores (and after major land battles). | | Police Vest (level II or III) | +1 | +2 | +2 | 450 | 2 | | Only available to law enforcement personnel. |
The prices listed are pre-invasion. Body armor would probably sell out completely in one or two days at two or three times pre-invasion prices. The helmet is assumed to be the US Army PASGT, though any helmet would probably do. |
