| Foglo is a planet which sees few visitors, but those who have seen it will quickly tell others of it’s beauty. What they don’t realize is that beauty hides may be some of the greatest dangers in the galaxy.
Called the Crystal Planet, Foglo is home to several hundred trillion crystals, some nothing more than mere crystals, some possessing incredible powers and abilities. Among the latter are crystals which produce immensely powerful energy, crystals which can mutate sentient beings into non-sentient creatures, crystals which turn water into a life prolonging substance, and crystals known as cloning crystals.
It is the cloning crystals to which Foglo owes it’s sentient population as these crystals capture sentient beings, holding them inside themselves, and then produce clones, known as crystal clones in part for where they originate, of their captive. These clones begin their life as newborns. Which helps explain why most of the planet has not advanced past the stone age. Though crystal clones had been appearing for a few thousand years before any kind of society appeared on the planet, they were far too few and very rarely made it to adolescence, let alone adulthood. It was not until around two thousand five hundred years before the Battle of Yavin that large numbers of crystal clones began reaching adulthood. It was at this time that stone age society on Foglo began to appear and there has been no sign yet that society will advance past the stone age.
That is, no sign except for Foglo’s one and only city. Arek Tesk, an incredibly long lived crystal clone who was one of the few to reach adulthood prior to the appearance of society on Foglo, founded the city of Teskantium five hundred years before the Battle of Yavin. Though he appears to continue his despotic rule of Teskantium, it is now believed that he never founded Teskantium. Rather, the belief is that the original Arek Tesk raised another crystal clone of the man he was a clone of. This clone he named Arek Tesk and he trained him to be just like he was. Thus that crystal clone did the same thing with yet another crystal clone, and so on. According to this belief, none of these crystal clones have revealed the truth but rather have nurtured the belief that the original Arek Tesk has been around for thousands of years.
Whatever the truth of Arek Tesk maybe, his Teskantium is the only place on Foglo where space age society can be found. Tesk based the city on Onderon’s walled city of Iziz, and thus the outer limits of the city is marked by a two story tall wall which separates it from the rest of Foglo. At the very center of the city, and around which the city sprang up, is the only starport in the Foglo system. Only ships Tesk allows to may land here, and those usually appear to belong to him. Tesk sends his citizens out into the wilds of Foglo to bring back energy crystals and life water, which he then ships off the planet. Yet when criminals are to be punished, it appears that unlike the Iziz of old Teskantium does not exile it’s citizens to the wilds of Foglo. Rather, they appear to be publicly executed. Whether or not this is true has never been determined as no one who has witnessed these executions has ever come forward to admit to them.
