| The Theta-11 Estoc first appeared three months before the Battle of Geonosis when CEC delivered a handful of the craft the Republic Judicial department. About two months later the Estoc began showing up in the Jedi Order’s fleet of fighters, though it would never reach the numbers nor popularity the Aethersprite enjoyed with the Order. Unlike fighters such as the Aethersprite, the Estoc was a two man fighter crewed by a pilot and a Sensor Intercept Officer, or SIO. They are seated with the pilot in front of their SIO. The pilot is charged with piloting the Estoc, operating itself weapons, and operating it’s navcomputer while the operation of the fighters communications system, sensors, and shields falls to the SIO. A unique feature of the Estoc is that if either the pilot or SIO is too badly injured to perform their duties, then the other can take over from their station. Most of an Estoc’s size was made up by it’s long, narrow nose, which extended well ahead of the cockpit. The cockpit sat practically on top of the fighter’s wings, which could be folded up for storage and down for flight. The generators, hyperdrive, and a pair of engines in a cylindrical housing that behind the cockpit. A proton torpedo launcher was located on the underside of the nose, almost at the very front of the nose while a laser cannon was located on each wingtip. During the Clone Wars it became common practice for Jedi with young padawans who were sent out on a campaign to take one of the Order’s Estoc fighters with them. The ship’s profile became so recognizable that many began calling it the star sword due to it’s resemblance to a sword. |
