| Designed by Yond Jericson and built in his shipyards, the VL-3062 Monere-class System Picket was the first in a line of twelve so called system pickets that Jericson Shipyards Inc. produced for the Republic navy during the Clone Wars. The Monere-class made it's debut shortly after the Battle of Geonosis and was rather heavily questioned as being a worthy picket ship for use in any Republic naval squadron due to it's surprising lack of armament. However, JSI was able to mass-produce the ships so quickly that it was felt that their production time and vast numbers more than made up for this lack. Indeed for any Monere-class to stand a chance without the help of more heavily armed ships, they would need to have numbers on their side.
Yet lack of armament wasn't the only problem the Republic navy had with the Monere-class. Their sublight speed was fairly respectable for a ship their size, but the Class III hyperdrive was too slow to allow any naval squadron to arrive with enough time to engage Seperatist forces. This would be something that would be solved in later RSI classes.
By the end of the Clone Wars, fewer than fifty Monere-class System Pickets were still in exsistence. |
