| Hakivark Inc.'s AT88-A Razor Disc Launcher is the upstart companies first attempt to challenge the Thaonk Corporation's domination as the offical weapons and armor supplier to the Avun military. Appearing somewhat like a Wookiee bowcaster (Hakivark's president believed that many Avun would soon idolize the co-pilot of the Millenium Falcon for his part in the recent rescue of the Princess of Alderaan and for helping his captain defend the destroyer of the Empire's Death Star), the AT88-A was designed to launch circularsaw blade-like razor discs at speeds of up to 150 kmh.
Unfortunately, while Hakivark's president was right that many Avun came to see Chewbacca as one of the heros of the Battle of Yavin, he had failed to take into account the very thing that made the Thaonk Corporation the dominant weapons and armor supplier to the Avun military. The realization that the Avun as a people prefer melee combat to any kind of distance combat. Thaonk Corporation had always realized that if you were going to sell any kind of distance weapon to the Avun people, and especially the Avun military without it being on a combat vessel, that you had to sell it as both a distance weapon and a melee weapon. Guns and similar hand held distance weapons could always be used in a pinch as a melee weapon, but the Avun didn't look for the idea of in a pinch, they looked for the idea of it being designed as a melee weapon from the start.
Because of this failure to realize what the Avun people wanted in a weapon, Hakivark Inc.'s AT88-A has never been a major weapon within the Avun military. Estimates suggest that the Avun military purchase enough to supply four to every unit of a hundred men. Though Hakivark failed to come up with a weapon that would challenge the Thaonk Corporation in the Avun market, sales to non-Avun have proved more than enough to keep the AT88-A in production. |
